Nearly 40 years after Macanudo crafted what could be considered the world’s first vintage cigar, it’s about the remake history with the upcoming release of the Macanudo Vintage 2010.
The 20210 growing season saw the highest temperatures in 25 years in the Connecticut River Valley, featuring high humidity and optimal rainfall that yielded exceptionally silky shade-grown wrapper tobacco. Cured and aged for an entire decade to help bring forth a range of pleasing notes on the palate, this tobacco is making its big debut in the new Macanudo Vintage 2010.
“We could not have asked for a better growing season than we had in 2010. Yet this is only part of the story. After such a beautiful crop is harvested, the hard work begins again because the most critical process for growing tobacco is curing. Given how unique and special this crop was, we were obsessive in monitoring the tobacco throughout the eight-week curing process, and ultimately brought its very best attributes to life,” comments Ernest Gocaj, who oversees the Connecticut growing operations for Macanudo.
The Macanudo Vintage 2010 blend features Dominican Piloto Cubano ’94, a proprietary Cuban-seed varietal regenerated by General Cigar’s agronomists over a ten-year process that brought back the unique aroma and taste characteristics the tobacco had two decades earlier. The Dominican Piloto Cubano 94 is brought together by hand-selected Nicaraguan and Honduran leaves, aged three and five years, respectively. The blend is bound by a Honduran leaf. According to the company, this cigar has notes of wood and vanilla and a slightly herbaceous finish.
Macanudo Vintage 2010 will be released on Aug. 17, 2021 in three sizes: Toro Grande (6.625 x 54), Torpedo (6 1/4 x 52), and Churchill (7 1/4 x 48). Price per cigar ranges from 11.99 to $12.29 and it will come packaged in solid wood boxes of 20 cigars handcrafted by artisans at General Cigar Dominican in Santiago, Dominican Republic.
